RV insurance coverages that fit your unique needs

An RV insurance policy will protect you, your family, and your vehicle for recreational use – when you’re on the road, at a campsite or park, or simply vacationing. In fact, if you live in your motorhome or travel trailer, some of our carriers can provide full-time RV insurance packages which include coverages similar to what you’d find on a homeowners policy, like personal liability and loss assessment.

Total loss replacement

With this coverage, your totaled travel trailer or motorhome can be replaced with a brand-new one, minus your deductible. To qualify, your RV must be five model years old or less. If your RV is older than five model years, you’ll receive the amount specified in your policy.

Example: If your totaled RV originally cost $55,000, but is only worth $45,000 today, we’ll pay to replace it with the same model year or later and the same trim level or better—even if it costs more than the original vehicle’s purchase price.

Replacement cost/personal effects

Protect personal property inside your motorhome or travel trailer up to the limits you specify.

Example: You accidently back your trailer into your picnic table, damaging your cell phone and tablet. We’ll pay to replace both items up to the limits of your policy.

Emergency
Expense

If your RV is disabled due to a covered incident and you’re more than 50 miles from your residence, we’ll cover your resulting transportation and lodging costs up to $750 (you may upgrade your coverage to $2000).

Example: You’re more than 100 miles from home when an accident on the highway damages and disables your RV. We’ll help pay for your hotel and rental car costs, up to the limits of your policy , while your RV is being repaired.

Pro tips for quoting RV insurance

Getting the best rate or the right insurance coverage for your RV isn’t as difficult as changing a tire on the side of the interstate. Just keep the tips below in mind before you start your quote:

  • Look up your RV’s value: Knowing your RV’s value will help determine how much coverage you need. Sites like NADA.com are a good starting point for researching your RV’s current worth.
  • Pick the coverages you need: For example, personal effects coverage may make sense for you if you travel with a lot of expensive gear, such as a laptop or camera.
  • Safety first: A clean driving record with both your car and RV can help lower your insurance costs.

Got RV Insurance Questions?

How much does RV insurance cost?

Annual RV insurance policies can be affordable. Your premiums for RV, motorhome and travel trailer insurance depend on several rating factors, most notably:

  • Type, age, and condition: Your RV insurance is primarily determined based on the year, make, and model of your vehicle. As you can imagine, an older, smaller travel trailer will likely have a lower premium than a larger, newer, luxury motorhome. If you’re insuring a state-of-the-art travel trailer, it will cost more than a smaller pop-up camper.
  •
  • Use: If you use your RV more often, then it will cost more to insure. In fact, if your RV is also your primary residence, your coverage needs will be different and the premium will differ from a policyholder who uses their motorhome or travel trailer as a weekend warrior.
  •
  • Driving history: Just like your auto insurance, a clean driving record can help save money when buying RV insurance. Tickets reported on your driving record and prior accidents can increase your premium.
Do you have to have insurance on a travel trailer?

Because you don’t drive your travel trailer, your state likely doesn’t require you to insure it. However, if you’re financing your travel trailer, then the bank may require comprehensive and collision coverage to protect the collateral against physical damage losses.

If I buy Roof Protection Plus® coverage will it apply to the interior of the RV?

Yes. Progressive’s Roof Protection Plus® coverage does include protection against damage to any part of the RV caused directly by a roof malfunction.

Can I insure destination trailers and horse trailers?

Yes to both. We can cover destination trailers like standard travel trailers and horse trailers can be covered up to the maximum amount allowed by the insurance carrier you purchase with.
