Acoustic Black Hole Sun by Chris Cornell

Updated: May 2017

Back in 2015, this post was the inaugural selection for our, now-discontinued, “Acoustic Clip of the Month.” The original clip was an old Live @ Yahoo Music session shared on YouTube by Folaholic. The original video we shared is a bit grainy, but it is one of the best acoustic versions of “Black Hole Sun” on the internet.

With the passing of Chris Cornell, we have elected to update the video to a session on “The Howard Stern Show” because it offered a bit more of Chris … allowing us not only to celebrate the music but also remember the man. Rest in peace Chris, you were selected first because you’re our favorite!

******* ORIGINAL POST *******

Welcome to the inaugural acoustic clip of the month, it’s just a little bit of fun we at IronPoint Insurance Services wanted to share with our readers and customers.

This proves that it doesn’t always have to be about insurance with an insurance agent. 🙂 There will be plenty of homebusiness, or auto insurance to talk about, so each month we’ll break it up with a little acoustic fun!

For those of you who don’t know me personally, or are not familiar with my hobbies … of which there are very few unfortunately, I play guitar … have since I was about 15 years old. These days I’m much more of a “strummer,” but that works for me because I totally enjoy a good acoustic version of a song. There is something special when you hear the artist peel back all the studio production, get back to their singer-songwriter roots, and let the true, raw spirit of the song be heard.

The Acoustic Clip of the Month

Going forward, as part of our monthly newsletter, we are going to share our Acoustic Clip of the Month. These clips will not be genre specific, if the clip is good we’ll consider it for sharing with our readers.

This month’s Acoustic Clip – Black Hole Sun by Chris Cornell

I’ve always been a fan of Chris Cornell’s work, both with Soundgarden and Audioslave. Our clip this month, Black Hole Sun, is arguably the most recognizable and popular song released by Soundgarden. It first appears on the album Superunknown released in 1994. After its release, Black Hole Sun, topped the Billboard Mainstream Rock Track charts where it spent seven weeks at #1.

When asked about the song’s meaning, Cornell has said that the lyric is a “surreal dreamscape.” The song really has no meaning, and it’s a combination of sadness and melody that creates a very moody atmosphere.

The Clip

The clip was created by Yahoo Studio videos, the video quality isn’t the best, but the audio is good and it’s one of the best acoustic versions of this song I’ve heard.
