Acoustic Colder Weather by Zac Brown Band

Maybe the wife and I have watched too much Nashville, or seen too much Blake Shelton on The Voice, or maybe Colder Weather by the Zac Brown Band is just a darn good song, whatever the reason, we’re going county this month.

Heck, maybe it’s just to avoid having to write about auto insurance. 🙂

Some songs grow on you over time while others you like immediately, for me I was an immediate fan of Colder Weather from the first moment I heard the song. After my first listen, I remember quickly reaching for my iPad to get the chords and begin to learn the song. I was compelled to get more familiar with the tune.

Some of the best songs are just a gruff guy pouring out his heart for the woman he loves, and Zac Brown plays that role perfectly. In my humble opinion, the texture and tone of Zac’s voice, combined with the haunting, truthful, sentimentality of the lyric, and the choice of key and changes, make this one of the most powerful male-driven ballads of any genre.

More About the Song

Colder Weather was written by Zac Brown, Coy Bowles, Wyatt Durrette, and Levi Lowrey and was the second single released from the 2010 album You Get What You Give.

According to Durrette, the song, which is essentially about a truck driver stuck on the road who is separated from his girl, was inspired by a woman he was dating. Durrette’s girlfriend was getting frustrated with their time apart and wanted him to slow down his travel schedule. He chose to pursue his dreams, and a great song was born.
