Driving Fast, the Tesla Model S and Insane Mode

I’ll be honest, I set out to write a blog post on the providing auto insurance for the Tesla Model S, and when I started to do my research, I discovered something else … “Insane Mode.”

That’s right, last year Tesla introduced a new feature for the Tesla Model S, and they call it “Insane Mode.” I couldn’t help but laugh as it conjured up memories of the movie Spaceballs, when Dark Helmet says, “Light speed, that’s too slow … we’re going to have to go right to ludicrous speed.”

This thing is real and it changes the game for the Tesla Model S.

What in the heck is “Insane Mode”?

The fact is the Tesla Model S is already a pretty fast car, the standard Model S can go from 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds. By way of comparison, a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS does 0-60 mph in about 4.1 seconds, and that car is built for speed. But the new dual-motor Model S can achieve 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. Wow! That’s just about as fast as a McLaren F1 supercar.

So, “Insane Mode” just means real, fast car!

I like how Robert Sorokanchich of Road and Track puts it, he says the new Tesla Model S, is a “dual-motor, all-wheel-drive, 691 horsepower silent screamer.

I’ve attached a video from our friends over at dragTimes, and I think the expression on the victims … errr passengers … captures just how shockingly fast this car is from a dead stop.

I’m a big fan of this car, and I freely admit I do want a Tesla Model S. So, Mr. Musk, if you listening, this would make a great Christmas present. 🙂
